Guidance Services

OISYS’ Guidance strives to achieve social and emotional success for youth, and young adults (up to age 20), within all aspects of life while exercising forward thinking and goal setting skills. This is done through teaching/guiding life skills, organizational skills, positive communication skills, and self esteem building. The primary focus is to create a safe place for clients to explore their unique attributes in order to build self confidence for individual success. Education is viewed as a full time job for each individual youth, and young adults are guided to strengthen work and daily living skills. The end result- exceptional empowerment for youth/young adults to thrive while giving their unique gifts to the world.

Life (or Daily Living) Skills

Life (or Daily Living) Skills is a service where OISYS professionals are trained to teach young adult and youth life skills through experience. These skills can include (but are not limited to) planning, organizing, cleaning, cooking, gardening, and interpersonal communication. DLS’s teaching and guidance is ideal for a variety of young adults and youth, including individuals with disabilities, to prepare for the future in ways that are often not focused on but are necessary for success. Sessions can take place in the client’s home, out in the community, and on OISYS property. OISYS’ DLS service is diverse, while our team focuses on the specific needs in order to develop specialized plans/goals particular to each individual.

Individual Skill Development Services

Individual Skill Development is a service where Youth Support Professionals serve as positive behavioral examples for youth, acting as a personal model from which to gain experience, advice, and knowledge. The mentoring program is intended to collaborate with youth, families, and professionals to help advocate for youth while guiding them toward constructive development. Each youth works with OISYS staff to develop personalized plans and goals, which the YSP works to achieve gradually through sessions. A OISYS Professional encourages personal relationships with youth, in a one-to-one setting, to help prepare for a successful future.

Tutoring Services

OISYS’ Tutoring works to increase skills within specific academic disciplines, helping to ensure individual academic success.  Typically youth, coming to us for help, are challenged with a specific set of skills (such as math or reading) and/or are protected under Special Education laws.  We collaborate with both parents and educators to ensure we are on track with the classroom curriculum, homework needs/wants, and/or Individual plans (IEP/504).  In addition, the OISYS’ professional is working to help the individual youth focus on his or her strengths in order to balance his or her academic challenges. Our services strive to provide specialized attention and practice in order for youth to reach the next level of knowledge. In other words- educating exceptional kids to thrive in a trusted environment. Once this is established, helping everyone (including the youth) incorporate this trust into their everyday world.

Consulting Services

OISYS’ consulting approach is designed to help with current questions that are common, but sometimes difficult to sort outside our homes, educational systems, and sometimes law/state systems. We help parents and families focus on individual strengths while helping sort through all the details associated with challenges, parenting, what steps to take next, and resources that can further provide clarity. The concept is as simple as the parent/family member being the driver, but we are the voice on the GPS giving different directions/options that are available for the desired destination. What to expect? Empowered parents/family members, with evidence based strategies, BEFORE unwanted behaviors occur for their loved one.
